A great pair of jeans can stand the test of time if properly cared for. Over time they mould to your body shape and give you a unique and individual look.

Here are a few tips for you to follow to keep your favourite denim in the best condition to wear again, and again, and again…

Over washing your jeans will rinse away the rich dye that gives you denim its perfect blue hue, as well as lose its strength and durability.

The freezer will become your best friend! Put your jeans in a plastic bag and pop it in the freezer overnight for a quick refresh and to eliminate bacteria. (This works for leather too).

Always cold wash. Never hot wash your denim as it causes the fabric to expand and then shrink. Try hanging your jeans in the bathroom and running a hot shower. The steam refreshes the denim without ruining the fit.

For a lived-in look avoid ironing, but if you prefer them looking crisp and clean just remember to always iron your jeans inside-out. This prevents the dye from fading. Set your iron to the high heat setting with plenty of steam, and as a precaution use a thin towel over your jeans to minimise direct heat onto the denim.

Soak your jeans in cold water and vinegar! It might sound a little strange but denim experts recommend this method, as the vinegar locks in the dye and stops the colour from fading. Leave your jeans in a solution of 50% cold water and 50% white vinegar for an hour, then hang flat to dry naturally.
